London Riots

My initial reaction to the riots in London were fear for my family and friends.

When I called and found out they were fine, I asked the standard question: why?

This didn’t seem to be a coordinated effort.  There were no signs that demanded justice, or freedom or rights.

In fact, the would-be thugs pictured on the news appear to have nothing in common at all.   London Riots

There are theories that these people have resorted to such behaviour, because there are few jobs, few prospects and the last few decades have seen the UK go from bad to worse.

I would agree, but I would also say that this behaviour is shameless in a democratic society.

Nonetheless, as Ramadan is always a time for reflection for me, I was thinking, every time I turn on the radio, there seems to be anarchy and chaos in the world.

Certain people have taken a position on who is to blame.  Islamophobia is rife, some blame Muslims.  Anti-Semitism is rife, far too many blame Jews.

These people seem to have found no one to blame for the state of the world.  For them, they lash out at anyone.

I can’t decide what is worse.  Blaming the wrong people, or blaming anyone at all.  As the flames rise above the skyline of London, I am most sad that very young people are watching this, as innocent bystanders.  Only time will tell what effect it will have on their young eyes.
